1810 OBL (Image) FRANCE (1812) Napoleonville. Stampless folded letter with nice "P 54 P NAPOLEONVILLE" marking. Napoleonville was the former town of Pontivy, renamed in 1804 when Napoleon was in power, and then became Pontivy again, and back to Napoleonville when Napoleon III came to power. Letter contents came from Academy of Rennes (scan upon request). There is some kind of embossed seal on it which I cannot read.

4906 OBL (Image) FRANCE (1866) Medal: Légion d'honneur. "Grande Chancellerie de la Légion d'honneur" free frank linear postmark in red. Cover addressed to the Count of Champigny, deputy chamberlain of the Emperor [Napoleon III]. This medal which is still given out today was created by Napoleon. Date postmark on the back in orange "SECTION DES CONTRE-SEINGS" which function was to check if the free frank was valid as some abuses existed. Ex-LEGENDRE collection, the leading specialist in French free frank postmarks. Interesting!
