| 23150 | TM | (Image) U.S.A. (1862) Vanilla. Lemon. Almond Rose: Burnett's Cooking Extract. Very rare encased postage stamp featuring a very fresh looking 3 cent Washington rose. Created to replace small currency which became scarce during the Civil War, these encased postage stamps are the forerunner of the popular ones which appeared in France, Germany and other European countries after World War I but are of course much scarcer. Burnett manufactured a line of 12 different flavorings for use in cooking. The vanilla extract was said to have been inspired by a society dame's desire to duplicate the taste of the confectioneries she had enjoyed during a stay in Paris! Extra fine metal case with sharp appearance and trace of silvering. An exceptional exhibit item for the Orchid specialist! | AVAILABLE AT $750 |
